How Strong is Your Brand?

Submitted by Mitch Seigel on Tues, 10/20/2015

Over thirty years ago I had an account at a radio station called The Brandin’ Iron. It was a very popular country night club that was in business for decades. It was rock solid! Think of the name itself-The Brandin’ Iron. What picture comes to mind, other than a head of cattle being branded by its owner?

Is your brand that strong? Are you using iron to brand the name and identity of your business? The more consistent and strong you are with your message, the stronger your brand will be. After sixty five years has McDonald’s changed the golden arches? They still serve hamburgers, shakes and fries.

For some businesses it comes easy to brand the name. Maybe there’s not a lot of competition or possibly they are fortunate to have deep pockets to drive the brand home at a faster pace. In most cases it takes a lot of time and energy to brand a product or service.

Right now, one of the hottest competitions in advertising is in the insurance industry. Think of the impressions we are constantly bombarded with, by the likes of Geico, Progressive, State Farm, Farmers and Allstate. It’s hard to get away from their brands. They know that every cycle there are those who consider moving their loyalty to another brand, so each company wants to be there for you, when you decide to make that change.

What other industries are heavy battles, trying to win you over with the strength of their brand. Financial, from banks to credit cards; automotive, from imports to domestics; restaurants, from fast food to fine dining, and so much more.

When a person wakes up each morning they are about to start a cycle of over eleven hundred messages that day. You want to make sure that in your target market, your brand is not one, but several of those messages. Timing and consistency are two of the key factors to a brand’s success. Not a lot more to tell you about other than you need to know your target market. Then it’s a matter of saying, Just Do It! Be strong and use some iron!

What are your challenges when it comes to branding? I look forward to hearing your comments. Until next time…
