Keep Your Nose to the Grindstone

Submitted by Mitch Seigel on Tues, 9/22/2015

This past week we lost one of baseball’s all time greats in Yogi Berra. The awards and accolades he received during his illustrious career are too numerous to count. Yogi Berra was known for many of his quirky quotes. The one that resonates with me, as it relates to sales, is “It ain’t over ‘til it’s over.”
In sales, if you get too caught up in the moment, it can be very emotional and overwhelming. The odds prove that you will not close every deal, every proposal, or every negotiation. If you know that in your head, you will be OK in your heart to move forward.

This week I thought I had a deal with a company, and I was told on Friday that it would not happen. I was runner up, but as we say, close is only good in horse shoes and hand grenades. So I must move forward and keep my nose to the grindstone, working on other opportunities. Eventually the odds will be with me.

As you are developing your pipeline for selling your products or services, or working with potential clients to buy your products, keep that in mind. You will sell some of them, but not all of them. It will make the process lighter and less emotional. That being said, you still need to have passion to succeed, and the desire to sell.

There are so many opportunities in each of our worlds, the practice of staying focused and keeping your nose to the grindstone is one that should cone easy. Just keep filling that pipeline and soon it will be your turn to succeed.

What are your challenges when it comes to keeping your nose to the grindstone? I look forward to hearing your comments. Until next time…
